On Thursday, December 7, Oakland University students, in collaboration with the Detroit Institute of Music Education (DIME), will host a special holiday-themed open mic event from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. at The Dovetail Café in Warren, Mich.
“We’re looking forward to hosting a fun, musical event and doing some good for The Detroit Children’s Center,” said Drew Schultz, OU@DIME faculty member.
Donations of used winter clothing — as well as monetary donations — will be accepted throughout the event and will benefit The Detroit Children’s Center, a Detroit-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children and families.
The event will feature performances by multi-award winner Tosha Owens — a highly sought after singer/songwriter whose unique style mixes Blues, Rock, Funk and R&B — and two students from OU’s Music Industry Event Management course, Nathalie Ali and Ayanna Akua.
“We are so excited and grateful to have these talented musicians be a part of our event,” said Neisa Moumdjian, a student in the Commercial Music Event Management class at OU who is overseeing the event.
In addition, the event will also feature more than an hour of round-robin style open mic performances of songs that are about the holidays or bettering the world. Sign-up for the open mic portion of the event begins at 6:30 p.m. The event is free to attend and all ages are welcome.

“We truly hope to make a difference for The Detroit Children’s Center this holiday season and are looking forward to a fun and successful holiday event,” Moumdjian said.
