Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed two individuals to serve eight-year terms on the Oakland University Board of Trustees effective on August 29, 2024. David Kramer is a re-appointee and Melanie Brown will serve on the board in her first term.

As a first-generation college student, the Detroit native wasn’t sure how to navigate her college journey, from picking a major, to managing her course load, to integrating work and social life. She also questioned how she would fund her education without taking on too much debt.

At a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 28, one of Oakland University’s original classroom buildings, South Foundation Hall, reopened for business after an extensive renovation and expansion project that spanned more than five years and $44.2 million from beginning to end.
