Antenna Measurement Service

The AEWL has the only independent automotive antenna measurement facility in Michigan that is open to entities of all types. The facility was made possible by a $400K award from the National Science Foundation's Major Research Instrumentation Solicitation in 2005. Our customers include automotive OEMs, antenna suppliers, Tier 1 integraters, academic and research institutions.

    • Turntable range from 0 to 360 degrees with 0.1 degree resolution
    • Turntable operates in stepped or continuous modes
    • Turntable diameter of 6 meters
    • Turntable weight load capacity of 14,000 lbs
    • Elevation gantry pivot height adjustment from 0 – 3 meters
    • Elevation gantry range from 0 – 90 degrees with 0.1 degree resolution
    • Source Antennas include a Quad-Ridge Horn and Parabolic Dish
    • Seavey Standard Gain Horns are used for gain calibrations
    • Data collected with Vector Network Analyzer
    • Square and Circular Ground Planes
  •  Antenna Measurement Chamber
    • Frequency of operation: 800 MHz to 6,000 MHz
    • Chamber Dimensions: 4.9 meters x 3.0 meters x 3.0 meters
    • AUT Controller 1: 0 to 90 degrees with 1 degree resolution
    • AUT Controller 2: 0 to 360 degrees with 1 degree resolution
    • Data collected with vector network analyzer
    • Source antenna is dual-ridge horn

Customer receives the following upon the end of their AUT measurement:

  • A Pre-Formatted Report (email [email protected] to request a sample report) in PDF format that includes:
    • Cover page
    • Time and date of testing
    • AUT Details: serial number and part number
    • AUT Setup:Test Frequencies, Module Configuration, Azimuth/Elevation Angles and Polarization
    • Pictures of the AUT on ground plane and/or vehicle
    • Polar gain plots of azimuth cuts per elevation angle and frequency
    • Statistical data per polar plot: average gain, linear average gain, min gain, max gain, standard deviation of gain (all in dBi)
    • Statistical data plotted as a function of elevation angle
  • An ASCII Data File (email [email protected] to request a sample ASCII Data File) that contains the analyzed gain data as a function of frequency, elevation and azimuth angles.
