Welcome to the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine!

We are so pleased you will be joining the OUWB Class of 2020.  

Below is a list of "checklist" items to help you transition into medical school.  Note that we have included contact information should you have any questions.  Please check back often as we will be adding new "to do" items throughout the coming weeks.

Due Date

Fingerprinting ApplicationIt is a requirement that all students have a fingerprint on file with the school. The fingerprinting will be done in O'Dowd Hall (on campus) during the first week of classes but in order to participate you must first complete a Long Term Care Workforce Background Check Application. Please complete the form legibly in blue or black ink by July 1. In the job title field on the form, you will list Medical Student.  The conditional hire date will be August 1, 2016.  Please return it to Stephanie Jurva, Administrative Coordinator, by mail at 216 O'Dowd Hall, 586 Pioneer Drive, Rochester, MI 48309-4482; by fax (Attn: Stephanie) to (248) 370-2771; or by scanning and emailing it back to Stephanie Jurva

On-Campus Housing ContractIf you are interested in living on Oakland's campus in the George T. Matthews Court Townhouses, you may register online now!  The deadline to have your housing contract signed is July 1.  To register for the George T. Activate OU NetID and Email AccountsAs an Oakland University student, you have been provided an OU Net ID and email account.  If you have not already done so, you will need to activate your computing account and email.  You can accomplish this at the Net ID Activation Site.  You will need your Grizzly ID and PIN.  See the admitted student tab in the admissions system for information about your Grizzly ID and setting your PIN.  To log in to your Oakland email, visit and log in using your Net ID and password.Admissions Office

Big Sib - Little Sib ProgramThe M2s are eager to meet you and offer their words of wisdom!  They have created a "Big Sib" program that will pair each M1 with an M2.  The program is completely voluntary.  If you are interested, you can find out more and complete the brief survey by clicking here.  Surveys must be completed by July 22.Camden Burk(M2)

Online OrientationThe Online Orientation module will help you better understand the policies and procedures at OUWB and the broader medical community before you arrive on campus. Consisting of five sections, this required online component should take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete. You can access the module in SoftChalk here. To complete the certification form at the end of each section, you will need to have activated your Oakland University email account and be logged in. Additionally, please be aware of these technical specifications: The SoftChalk software is not supported in Chrome or versions of Internet Explorer earlier than IE9. You will need to turn off your pop-up blocker, and you must have Java, the QuickTime plug-in, Shockwave Flash, and Adobe Reader installed.Colleen Arnett

Faculty Dinner RSVPWednesday, August 3 is Faculty Dinner Night. OUWB Faculty members will be hosting dinner for you (and one to three of your classmates) at their home or a restaurant. This is a great opportunity for you to make a connection with OUWB faculty! RSVP by filling out the Faculty Dinner Registration Form. *Please note: Even if you are not attending the dinner, please fill out this form as it captures food allergy information which we use for future planning purposes.*

Orientation Week ActivitiesOrientation Week is first and foremost an academic experience. During the first week of classes, we will begin Monday through Thursday at 8 AM and our campus sessions between 4 PM and 5 PM.  Included in that academic schedule will be opportunities for you to more deeply experience our community, including a "Sundaes on Sunday" open house, and an afternoon of wellness activities.  To RSVP for these activities, please contact Colleen Arnett at

New Student QuestionnaireEach year, we ask our incoming students to complete the New Student Questionnaire as a way to learn more about you - as individuals, and as a class.  At White Coat Ceremony, we will also use these responses to introduce the Class of 2020 and celebrate your collective accomplishments and talents.  The questionnaire is available in the Class of 2020 MedSync portal found here.Colleen Arnett

ImmunizationsBy now you should have received a letter about the required immunizations that need to be completed prior to matriculation. Note that some immunization series can take up to six months to complete. If you have not started the process, contact your family physician. Students that are not current with immunizations may be excluded from clinical activities. Visit the immunization website for additional information or to download the immunization form. Due to HIPAA law, all immunization records should be sent to Graham Health Center at Jurva

AAMC Matriculating Student QuestionnaireThe AAMC asks all new medical students to complete a matriculating student questionnaire (MSQ).  You should have received an email from AAMC in early June.  Please take a few moments to respond to the survey - we would really like to have 100% participation.

Family Orientation Activities

The OUWB Parent Program is pleased to invite your parents and families to meet our Dean and learn more about the OUWB experience at the following events planned just for them: 

Thursday, August 4 is our "Meet the Dean" event.  This begins at 4:30 PM with a tour of O'Dowd Hall, followed by a meet and greet with Dr. Robert Folberg, Founding Dean, who will speak with your families about OUWB and your journey as an OUWB medical student.  Tours will depart outside the Medical Student Lounge in 209 O'Dowd. Light refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be available at 5:30 PM, and the Meet the Dean session will begin at 6:00 PM in 204 O'Dowd.

Friday, August 5 is Family Friday.  This event, which includes a continental breakfast at 8:00 AM, starts at 8:30 AM with our Introduction to Team-Based Learning (TBL) for Families, an interactive activity that allows your family members to experience for themselves the TBL approach you will be using in the curriculum. The TBL exercise will be followed by a presentation and discussion with our Financial Services staff.  You are welcome to join your family member(s) at 9:30 AM for the Financial Services presentation.
