Procedure for Establishment of New Student Awards

Rationale:

This guideline provides the requirements for creating a new student award.

Scope and Applicability:

OUWB individuals or units establishing a new student award or honor society that meets one of the following criteria:

  1. Award or honor society induction to be formally recognized by the School of Medicine. Examples include presentation at Honors Convocation and/or inclusion in the Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
    - OR –
  2. Award or induction includes a financial component

Standard Practice Guideline:

OUWB individuals or units that wish to establish a new student award or honor society that meets the above criteria must submit a Student Award Proposal Form to the Committee on Student Awards for review. The committee will review the proposal to ensure that it conforms to pertinent OUWB and OU policies. The committee will request revisions as necessary and upon approval, will submit the proposal to the Executive Assistant in the Dean's office so that it can be routed appropriately for approval. The committee will communicate the final decision to the originating individual or unit.

Procedures:

  1. Originating individual or unit completes OUWB Student Award Proposal Form, which includes:
  2. Originating individual or unit submits completed form to the Committee on Student Awards.
  3. Committee reviews form for compliance with pertinent OUWB and OU policies.
  4. As necessary, the committee may request revisions from individual or unit.
  5. If approved by a quorum of the committee, the proposal will be submitted to the Executive Assistant in the Dean's office so that it can be routed appropriately for approval.
  6. The Committee on Student Awards will communicate to the originating individual or unit regarding any requested revisions and the final decision.
