Campus Flu Challenge 2016 underway

Oakland University is again partnering with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and other schools to compete in the College and University Flu Vaccination Challenge.

This friendly competition among colleges around the state is tracking the self-reported number of college students who get immunized against influenza. Oakland is competing in a category against Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, Grand Valley, Wayne State and Western Michigan.

Oakland University students can get a flu vaccination at the Graham Health Center on campus, from a family physician or at a local pharmacy and report it at this Survey Monkey link. Each survey recorded earns credit for the school and competition winners will be announced later this year.

“This year’s supply of flu vaccine has arrived and we have started this year’s Flu Challenge,” said Nancy Jansen, nurse practitioner, and director of the Graham Health Center. “More importantly, we are ready to provide these immunizations so our students will stay ahead of the flu and have a healthy school year.”

Why participate?

Each year, many young adults in Michigan will get sick, miss class or even die from the flu. Last year, only about 10 percent of college-age residents were vaccinated in the state of Michigan.
