Ph.D. in Nursing

Scholars who possess a PhD in nursing are prepared to respond to the escalating health care needs of society, educate nurses for practice, enhance nursing knowledge through research and guide the stewardship of the nursing discipline.

Applications will be matched with a mentor within the first year to ensure a superior research experience in the developing as a nurse scholar.

The online nature of this program will allow for flexibility for both local and distance learners. Whereas the on campus “Doctoral Week” engenders a sense of community for all Doctoral students.

The program offers a BSN to PhD path, an MSN to PhD path, and an innovative DNP to PhD path.

Nursing Research

Applied research is foundational to advancing nursing knowledge and expanding theory with in the profession of nursing. Research studies and projects in progress, past research and research interests are described in the Nursing Research Portfolio which includes Research Summaries of individual faculty and links for further information. Potential PhD candidates are encouraged to visit the OU SON Research Summaries page to identify faculty who share the same topic/area of research.
