Women’s cross country team wins second straight Horizon League championship

Oakland University’s women’s cross country team continued its recent domination of the Horizon League by winning its second straight league championship in November, outdistancing second place Wright State University by 60 points.

For the second consecutive year, four Golden Grizzlies finished among the top seven runners in the 6K race to earn First Team All-Horizon League honors. Sophomore Rachel Levy finished in first place with a winning time of 21:35.4. Senior Miranda Hass was runner-up, followed by junior Alana Koepf in fourth place and junior Ashley Burr sixth.

The Golden Grizzlies went on to finish 13th out of 32 teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, the highest regional finish in the program’s history.

“This is the most decorated team we’ve ever had, and we accomplished some great things this year,” said Oakland head coach Paul Rice, BA ’93, who was named the Horizon League Coach-of-the-Year for the second straight year. “The ones who are graduating this year leave knowing they were on the best team we’ve ever had.”
