OU's transfer-friendliness has earned the university a place on the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll for the third year in a row.

For the third consecutive year, Oakland University been named to the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Honor Roll, which recognizes excellence in the development and support of dynamic and innovative pathways for community college transfer students.

The Transfer Honor Roll is determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost and financial aid, campus life for transfer, admission practices, and bachelor’s degree completion. This year, Phi Theta Kappa named 208 colleges and universities to the list.

The Transfer Honor Roll was based on analysis from the National Student Clearinghouse, and on data submitted through each four-year institution’s profile on PTK Connect, Phi Theta Kappa’s online tool designed to help students find their best-fit colleges and career pathways.

Colleges completing the PTK Connect profile are given a Transfer Friendliness Rating, and the Honor Roll is chosen from among the top 25% highest-rated colleges.

“The goal of most students attending community college is a bachelor’s degree, but few do because of financial barriers and the complexities of the transfer process,” says Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, President and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa. “We are proud to recognize the exceptional colleges and universities that go above and beyond to create accessible pathways to bachelor’s degree completion for community college transfer students.”

Each year, Oakland University welcomes transfer students from community colleges and four-year schools, as well as military veterans, international students, and high school graduates who’ve earned college credits through Advanced Placement (AP) courses, International Baccalaureate (IB) programs or the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP).

"We are grateful to the Phi Theta Kappa organization for continuing to recognize and honor our ongoing commitment to support transfer students,” said OU’s Director of Undergraduate Admissions, Shane Lewis. “We are truly proud of the fact that we have been able to help so many students achieve their goals by removing barriers to earning a degree."

OU transfer team members provide a variety of transfer-friendly services, including College Credit Information Sessions, Transfer Student Information Sessions, and Transfer Student Open House events. To streamline the admissions process for transfer students, OU also participates in statewide transfer agreements (such as MTA and MACRAO) and has over 40 articulation agreements with institutions primarily in Michigan, including the state’s community colleges.

In addition, a number of scholarships are available to OU transfer students, including the Presidential Transfer Award ($10,000), Phi Theta Kappa Award ($5,000), Talented Transfer Award ($2,000) and Frontline Workers Award ($2,500), in addition to the need-based OU Transfer Grant ($2,000).
