Music Preparatory Division

Oakland University’s Music Preparatory Division offers the expertise, commitment and vibrant energy of a university music department to anyone who wants to explore the world of music through performing with musical understanding.

The Music Prep Division serves music learners of all ages, including:
  • pre-school and elementary-age children
  • middle school and high school students
  • adults of all ages
  • students seeking serious preparation for college careers
  • learners who are simply seeking to learn more about music to enhance their lives.
Music Prep offers experiences that foster learning success and a lifelong love of music. Classes are offered in voice and all instruments in Varner Hall on our Rochester Hills campus. Voice lessons are also offered at West Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills.

Private Lessons in Instruments and Voice for All Ages

Weekly one-on-one 30, 45 or 60-minute lessons in the following instruments:

Early Childhood
Lowry School-Day Class (for children attending Lowry Center for Early Childhood)
A lively, movement-based class for children to sing, laugh, bounce, dance, play instruments and create music together.  Join us as we engage in a wide range of music and musical experiences, building on what children already know to explore new musical worlds.  Provides a strong basis for future musical study and for enjoying music in life!  These 30-minute classes are for children already attending the Lowry program, with the focus of learning and enjoying music in a meaningful way.

Group Piano for Young Beginners (4 - 7 yr)
Take the right first step for your child's experience in piano!  This small group class builds a foundation a musical understanding and coordination that prepares young children for successful piano study.  Experiences in this enjoyable, peer-supported setting foster more productive progress in private lessons, once the learner is ready to make the transition.
