About OU Social Media

Oakland University’s social media strategy is developed and executed by a team of specialists within University Communications and Marketing.

Collaborating with subject matter experts and influencers across the University, the social team is able to support strategic University goals through integrated marketing. It takes a village to utilize social media in a meaningful way.

OU’s social media goals line up with the University’s overall goals: recruitment, retention, and alumni engagement. To achieve these goals, the social team:
  • leverages social platforms to expand the reach and effectiveness of traditional marketing and advertising campaigns
  • engages in the conversation about OU and solves actual problems identified
  • fosters meaningful relationships with members of the OU community
It’s important to stay true to the OU brand and always work toward achieving goals, but it’s also important for OU’s social media personality to be authentic, honest and a little bit human. On social media, we make good on the promises made in marketing materials. Individual stories illustrate all the ways OU puts a quality education within reach. The brand comes to life when ~ 90% of our community has the opportunity to interact with those stories.
