We make it easy to be a guest student at OU — regardless of which university you attend now. To become a guest student, you must be enrolled at an accredited college or university and be in good standing. Learn about the steps to apply as a guest student.

Once You're Admitted

Once you’re admitted to OU as a guest student, you will receive an enrollment guide that walks you through registration, setting up your accounts and available student services.

  • University accounts: Be sure to activate your accounts, and check them regularly to access grades and transcripts, receive billing notifications and more.

  • Registration: Once you set up your SAIL account, you can register for courses. If you receive an error message while registering, please contact the Office of the Registrar at [email protected] or (248) 370-3450 (please identify yourself as a guest student).

  • Advising: As a guest student, you receive all advising from your home institution and are responsible for requesting a transcript of grades be sent to your home institution after courses are completed.

  • Finances: OU will send an email to your OU email account when your tuition charges are ready to be viewed and paid via eBill. Remember, OU offers a summer payment plan so you can spread your tuition costs into smaller payments.
Graduate

If you’re admitted to a degree program at another accredited institution and wish to take courses at OU to transfer credit, you should apply as a graduate guest student. Please consult with your adviser at your home institution regarding the ability to transfer specific credits to your program.

Reminders:

  • Enrollment for all guest students is limited to 12 credit hours
  • Graduate guest students are typically admitted to OU for one semester only
