Peer Tutoring

Tutoring is a free service available to all enrolled Oakland University students who are currently taking the course at Oakland University. Drop-in tutoring is available for the majority of courses, and appointment tutoring is offered for selected subjects. Selected subjects like foreign languages require scheduling a one-on-one appointment. Most 0000-2999 level courses are tutored as well as a number of upper level undergraduate classes.

Tutors are OU students, trained by The Tutoring Center staff, who have developed successful tutoring strategies that will help you become an independent learner and a successful student.
Why should I go to tutoring?
  • All students can benefit from tutoring.
  • It is a good practice to make tutoring part of your weekly study routine, especially in your most challenging courses - come see us consistently.
  • Your college courses are supposed to push you out of your comfort zone. But you don’t have to experience them on your own. We all need support and we're here to provide you that help.
  • Our tutors are students just like you - they have taken the same classes and faced the same challenges and they are eager to share their tips with you.
How do I find a tutor?
  • During Fall and Winter, tutoring in many courses is offered on a drop-in basis and no appointment is necessary. Use the online schedule to find drop-in times.
  • If you cannot find a tutor for your specific subject, request a tutor for a 0000 through 2999 level course
Make the most of your tutoring session
  • It is best to come to tutoring consistently as opposed to the day before the test.
  • Tutors do not replace class attendance; they address specific questions. Class attendance is always a must.
  • Bring your class materials (textbooks, syllabus, assignments, previous tests, etc.) to tutoring.
  • Plan ahead to ensure tutor availability, especially during peak times like midterms and before tests.
  • If you are coming to appointment tutoring, please be punctual! Your appointment will be canceled if you arrive more than 15 minutes late.
