MLK Day Remote Service Opportunities

Drop off all completed service items to the OSI

Hygiene Product Drive

Drop off travel size hygiene products to the OSI. They will be donated to veterans in Oakland County. Items may include:

  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Body Soap
  • Deodorant
  • Lotion
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • Etc.

Dog toys

Materials needed:

  • Old t-shirt
  • Scissors
  1. Cut strips of your shirt with the scissors
  2. Tie the strips of fabric together, making knots throughout
  3. Make sure there are 2 big knots at the end, to secure the loose fabric strips

Get well cards for Pryce

Materials needed:

  • Paper
  • Writing utensil
  • Craft supplies (optional)

6 year old Pryce was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma at age 3. Recently, he has been sick and would love to get some get well cards to boost his spirit! He loves Legos, dinosaurs, and loves to laugh!

Valentine's Day cards

Materials needed:

  • Paper
  • Writing utensil
  • Craft supplies (optional)

Make Valentine's Day cards that we will pass out to various organizations in Oakland County.

Plarn

Materials needed:

  • Grocery bags
  • Scissors

Make plarn by following the directions on the websites listed below. The plarn is used to make sleeping mats for those suffering from homelessness. 18 plarn balls with 100 loops per plarn ball can make one sleeping mat.

Arts and Scraps

Materials needed:

  • Fabric scraps (pick up from OSI)
  • Scissors

Follow the instructions on the bag that you picked up from the OSI. These recycled fabric scraps will be used to create DIY STEM kits for kids in the Detroit area.
