Wood Chip Boiler

With funding from Oakland University, the Department of Energy, and the SE Michigan Resource Conservation & Development Counsel, a high tech automated (1 million BTU / hr) wood chip boiler was installed at the east campus Shotwell-Gustafson Pavilion / OU INC facility.  The project removed the building steam system and installed a hot water KOB wood boiler & chip handling system.  The project also installed HVAC digital controls, new T8 lighting, induction pavilion lighting and LED outdoor lighting.  Educational components include demonstration systems for the production of biodiesel, bio-ethanol and wood, or biomass, pellets.
