Monday, February 17: Creative Writing Faculty Reading, with professors Katie Hartsock and Alison Powell

Katie Hartsock is the author of Bed of Impatiens (Able Muse, 2016), a finalist for the Ohioana prize in poetry. Her poems and translation have appeared in journals such as Arion, Beloit Poetry Journal, Ecotone, Exchanges: Journal of Literary Translation, Massachusetts Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, Pleiades, and Southwest Review, and is forthcoming in Able Muse and Image. She holds a MFA in poetry from the University of Michigan, where she won the Hopwood Prize in poetry, and a PhD in Comparative Literary Studies from Northwestern University. Alison Powell’s poems and lyric essays have recently appeared in A Public Space, Alaska Quarterly, Black Warrior Review, Boston Review, Crazyhorse, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Proximity Magazine; Prairie Schooner, and more. Her book On the Desire to Levitate (Ohio UP, 2014), won the Hollis Summers Poetry Prize; a chapbook of lyric essays is forthcoming from Black Lawrence Press in October 2020. Powell completed her MFA in poetry at Indiana University and her PhD in English at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. 5-6:30 p.m., Oakland Center, Rooms 128-129.
