Description:

Moral Injury refers to experience severe distress and functional impairments that individual make when they are exposed to traumatic events that violate their moral values, for instance decision about the allocation or continuation of life supporting treatment during a pandemic (e.g. which patient is given a ventilator). Evidence has suggested that outcomes associated with exposure to potentially morally injurious events are distinct from but associated with PTSD. In addition, empirical evidence suggest that many health workers suffer moral injuries without being aware of or being educated on the concept of moral injury.
