Nominations sought for 2022 community engagement awards

OU looks to once again honor faculty, staff and university partners who enhance the lives of students and have a positive impact on the broader community

Because community and civic engagement enhances the lives of our students and has a positive impact on the broader community, Oakland University is committed to building ongoing and collaborative relationships with its surrounding communities.

The university values the diverse relationships faculty, staff, students and community partners have built and that advance its mission. To recognize work toward this end, Oakland University has established the three awards listed below.

Students, staff, faculty and community members interested in nominating individuals for outstanding community engagement activities over the last year are encouraged to review and utilize the following information.

Community Engagement Faculty Award

Honors and recognizes an Oakland University faculty member who has excelled in community-based work including scholarship and creative activity, course-based experiences that promote learning through community service, service-learning activities, or engagement with community partners.

Staff Excellence Award in Community Engagement

Honors and recognizes an Oakland University staff member who has made a significant contribution or has provided exemplary leadership in supporting community-based activity and whose contributions have led to a significant impact in the community.

OU Community Partner Award

Honors and recognizes community partners who have served a vital role in collaboration with Oakland University, provided exemplary leadership and/or contributed to significant impact in the community. Examples of impactful activities include but are not limited to: hosting Oakland University student interns, participating in course-based experiences that promote learning through community service, service-learning activities, and/or engagement with Oakland University, working with Oakland University faculty and/or students on research, scholarship or creative activity that investigates, analyzes, addresses, or engages with a particular community issue or need.

The Community Engagement Committee thanks those who wish to acknowledge the outstanding community and civic engagement work of their colleagues and friends. Members include Stephanie Lee, Diane Baldwin, David Dulio, Maria Beam, Rebecca Cheezum, Fay Hansen, Wayne Thibodeau and Theresa Hardnett.
