Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine is inviting campus community members to participate in a bone marrow registration drive for Be The Match, the world's largest blood stem cell donor registry.
Faculty and staff interested in supporting efforts to provide lifesaving therapies to people fighting any of more than 70 diseases including blood cancer can register to become donors during drive events scheduled throughout the week in the Oakland Center. These will take place:
Adults between the ages of 18 and 40 are encouraged to sign up for the registry, which includes providing a cheek swab sample. This is used to compare, and ideally match, specific protein markers of patients who need a bone marrow transplant.
An online donor registration option is also available. Through Tuesday, November 15, potential donors can receive a registration swab kit from Be the Match by texting MSOUWB22 to 61474.
