The Oakland University Graduate School is reaching out to all alumni, students, faculty, staff and supporters for assistance in honoring a special group of alumni – namely those who have chosen to attend OU multiple times throughout their educational journey.
Whether they've returned to earn a second, third, or even fourth degree, these dedicated individuals have shown unparalleled commitment to their personal and professional growth, all while reinforcing their connection to Oakland University.
To recognize and celebrate this unique group, a contest is under way to create an official, distinguished title for multiple OU degree holders. Organizers would like to lean on the creativity of OU community members to find the perfect title. Directions on how to participate in the contest are provided below.
Round 1 – Title submissions
Submissions will be collected through Friday, January 24, 2025, via an online form.
Titles that reflect multiple degree holders' dedication, resilience and enduring relationship with OU will receive highest consideration. Ideas that embody the prestige and distinction of exemplary academic achievement will also be well received.
Beyond this, suggested titles should be concise, memorable and easy to recognize. Submissions can include explanations and/or stories that clarify their inspiration or meaning.
Round 2: Title selection
Following collection of idea submissions, a shortlist of possible titles will be compiled and presented to the campus community. Members will then have an opportunity to vote for their favorite between Monday, March 17, and Friday, April 11, 2025.
The winning title will be announced on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The Graduate School hopes to welcome broad participation in the contest as a way for community members to shape an important part of Oakland University identity and to have a chance at becoming part of OU history. The person who suggests the winning name will also receive a prize to be picked up on Main Campus.
