Oakland University has a commitment to fostering diverse perspectives among its students. Several questions on the 2020 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) asked students about their experiences with diversity, equity and inclusion. One such question asked about the extent to which OU provides a supportive environment for diversity.
OU students gave relatively high ratings on most areas of diversity, and these ratings were comparable to those given by students at peer institutions. However, OU seniors report a significantly more supportive environment with respect to gender identity, racial/ethnic identity and sexual orientation and a less supportive environment for religious affiliation than our peers.
