Text alert test 10-5-20The Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) and University Communications and Marketing will conduct the Fall 2023 test of the OU's emergency text alert message system  at approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11.

The university uses text alerts to ensure that in the event of an emergency, all who register to receive the alerts will receive critical information as quickly as possible. Text alerts are sent only in response to the following conditions:

  • An imminent threat of danger on campus
  • An unanticipated university closure
  • A campus-wide cancellation of classes
  • The declaration of a snow emergency
  • A system test conducted once each semester

All campus community members with mobile text message and/or voice contact numbers on file with the university are automatically registered for this service. Anyone with concerns that they may not be registered can check their status using their OU e-mail account and Grizz ID number on the OUPD web section.

Registered users who have used the web section above to ensure their contact information is up to date and who do not receive a text alert test message on during the upcoming test should report this to [email protected].

For complete information regarding emergency preparedness on the Oakland University campus, visit the OUPD Emergency Management web section.
