In addition to individual therapy, the OU Counseling Center offers students struggling with a wide variety of mental health issues a number of valuable alternative resources, including support groups. Faculty and staff concerned about the welfare of students with whom they work are strongly encourage to point these students to the resources the OUCC make available.

GHCTravis A. Goldwire, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist who also serves as group and intake coordinator at the OUCC, explains that students who may be placed on a waitlist for up to a month for individual therapy may find thatĀ support groups and other resources can more immediately help address the challenges they are facing.

As many as eight support groups are held weekly to address topics including social anxiety, depression, stress management, gender issues, neurodivergence, relationship problems, procrastination and time management, and others. Importantly, support groups are completely free for students to attend.

Students can also take advantage of Uwill, the university's partner providing students mental health resources. They can can receive up to three free, 30-minute therapy sessions while awaiting OUCC services. Other helpful resources include self-help videos and after-hours crisis support.

The OUCC can also help students seek referrals off campus for services like diagnostic testing, seeking academic accommodations or psychotherapy.

Located in Graham Health Center, the OUCC is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for individual therapy with a counselor or same-day emergency services. Wait times for individual therapy may vary based on the time of the semester.
