Police investigating burglary incident on West Campus

TIMELY WARNING

The Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) is investigating the report of a burglary at the West Campus building located at 1500 University Drive in Auburn Hills. The incident took place in the evening or early morning hours of Tuesday, August 30, and Wednesday, August 31.

Multiple building windows were damaged and the suspect or suspects were able to enter and cause damage to multiple offices inside. Security systems were nonfunctional due to an extended power outage in the area.

The incident appears to be specific to West Campus and there is no known current threat to people or property on Main Campus at this time. Police do not currently have a suspect in the case.

Safety and Crime Prevention Information

  • There is always safety in numbers, when possible, you should walk with someone, especially after dark.
  • The SAFEwalk program provides a visual escort while you are walking on campus. To request a SAFEwalk escort, call OU Police at (248) 370-3331 and a Police Officer or Police Service Aide will respond to the area while you walk to your location.
  • If you witness a crime, be sure to report it to the Oakland University Police Department
  • Trust your instincts. If a situation or location feels unsafe or uncomfortable, it probably is not the best place to be.
  • Make sure items of value are not left in the open and visible from outside your car or office.
  • If you have blinds in your office keep them closed when you are not present.
