The Oakland University Police Department has issued an all clear regarding the gas leak reported near Meadow Brook Hall on Wednesday afternoon. Campus community members may resume normal activities.

The Oakland University Police Department is investigating the report of a gas leak near Meadow Brook Hall on East Campus. The report was received at approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. Facilities management personnel and the university's utility service provider have been notified and are responding to the situation.

All campus community members are advised to avoid the Meadow Brook Hall area and to be aware that the north entrance of parking lot P-61 has been closed until further notice.

The OUPD recommends that campus community members remember and utilize the following gas leak safety tips:

  • Evacuate all individuals from any area where gas odor is present.
  • Do not allow any ignition of flame such as from a lighter.
  • Do not use any electrical devices, such as utilities, appliances or equipment, in the area of the odor.
  • Don’t adjust thermostats or appliance controls.
  • Don’t use elevators.
  • If safe to do so, extinguish any flames in or near the source of natural gas odor.
