It is with gratitude that I welcome you to the latest edition of Advancing Oakland. This issue is dedicated to celebrating two groups that are instrumental to the success of Oakland University: first-time donors and the invaluable contributions of our volunteers.
Honoring First-Time Donors
Every journey begins with a single step, and for OU, that step is often taken by our first-time donors. Over the life of our recently completed campaign, 12,000 first-time donors invested in OU. Whether you’ve recently made your first commitment or have supported OU for years, your generosity fuels our mission to support the students and programs of the university. Your contributions not only provide essential resources but also serve as a testament to the power of collective action. Together, we are making a tangible difference.
In this issue, we highlight donors’ stories: their reasons for giving, their personal connections to OU, and the impact they’ve witnessed. We hope their stories resonate with you and encourage others to join our growing community of supporters.
Recognizing Volunteers
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. Their dedication, time and skills are priceless gifts that enrich every aspect of what we do. Via their service, hundreds engage with OU to advance our priorities and, most importantly, our students. OU volunteers embody the spirit of thoughtfulness, compassion and service that defines us.
In these pages, you’ll meet some of our passionate volunteers. Their stories illustrate the profound difference that individuals can make when they commit their time and talents to the university.
Looking Forward
As we reflect on the achievements of our first-time donors and volunteers, we are reminded of the power of community and collective action. Together, we have the ability to create lasting change and build a brighter future for the generations ahead. To this end, the university is actively engaging in a strategic planning process that will shape the direction of OU for years to come.
We invite you to immerse yourself in the stories and insights shared in this issue. Thank you for being a part of the OU family and for your unwavering support. Together, we are stronger.
In service,
Michael J. Westfall
