We sat down with music major, MacKenna Greene, to talk about her favorite OU moments.
MAJOR: Bachelor of Arts in music education, 2021
OCCUPATION: Owner and lead instructor at Red Piano Music Studio
FAVORITE STUDY SPOT ON CAMPUS: There was a small “secret” hidden room near the Elliott Starbucks that was a favorite of music students to study in.
GO-TO PARKING LOT: The Varner lot
FAVORITE FOOD OR PLACE TO EAT ON CAMPUS: Before it closed, Au Bon Pan’s black bean burger was my daily dinner; so good.
FAVORITE CAMPUS EVENT: Every jazz band concert. They were all so much fun to perform in and always had packed audiences.
FAVORITE MOMENT ON CAMPUS: We used to have late-night practice sessions in Varner. We would grab dinner, hit the practice room until 1 or 2 a.m., then get together for a Taco Bell run or movie night.
FAVORITE PROFESSOR: I had so many great professors at OU, but I have to give a special shout-out to Dr. Pam Klena and Dr. Deborah VanderLinde, two absolutely outstanding Music Education professors and mentors who immensely helped me navigate my degree.
SONG(S) YOU LISTEN TO WHEN YOU’RE STUDYING: Beethoven’s 6th Symphony, Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto and Copland’s Appalachian Spring
SOMETHING UNIQUE ABOUT YOURSELF: I’ve been teaching music since I was 16. I started my own music teaching business as a sophomore at OU and hired some friends to teach along with me.
