The National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) has named James Hargett, associate vice president for finance and controller among its class of 15 higher education business leaders for the 2024-25 NACUBO Fellows Program.
“Jim already has a tremendous amount of experience and talent, but an opportunity to join this prestigious NACUBO Fellows Program was something we wouldn’t want him to pass up,” said Stephen W. Mackey, OU vice president for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer. “Being selected for this program is a big deal in higher education accounting and I expect him to use this opportunity to expand his knowledge and bring back ideas that will benefit us all.”
The immersive leadership development program prepares higher education professionals who are seeking a chief business officer (CBO) position in their next role. Over the course of a year, NACUBO Fellows will work with higher education presidents, provosts, CBOs, and other experts as they expand their management, communications, and leadership skills and strengthen the core competencies needed to succeed as senior leaders. The program launched in 2016.
“The NACUBO Fellows Program embodies one of our most-pressing priorities: to strengthen the pipeline to the chief business officer role by preparing the next generation of leaders with the knowledge, competencies, and communications skills they will need to succeed,” said Kara D. Freeman, NACUBO president and chief executive officer. “I am pleased to welcome these high-achieving professionals and look forward to helping them shape their leadership trajectory.”
