Oakland University’s Oakland Center will be the host site of the 37th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering from October 10-14. Approximately 400 participants will travel from all corners of the globe to participate in this annual event. The early registration deadline is set for September 12.
ASE is one of the most prestigious international conferences and the premier research forum in computer science, specifically in Software Engineering. In fact, it is one of the few conferences ranking A*.

“This is really a coup for Oakland University to be able to host this worldwide conference this October,” said Marouane Kessentini, Ph.D., chair of Oakland University’s Computer Science department in the School of Engineering and Computer Science and general chair of the conference. “Each year, this conference brings together hundreds of top-level researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to discuss foundations, techniques, and tools for automating the analysis, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of large software systems.”
This year also saw a record number of submitted papers compared to the prior 37 years. A total of 774 papers were submitted including 531 papers to the main track, 56 to the NIER track, 41 to the tools demo, 31 to the industry showcase, 24 to Journal First, 20 to LBR and 18 to Students Research Competition. Typically, the conference acceptance rate is around 20% of those submitted papers. Papers accepted at the conference will be published in the IEEE and ACM proceedings.
This year’s conference begins on Monday, October 10 with tutorials, a doctoral symposium and workshops.
Tuesday sees the opening of the main conference with keynote speakers Mark Harman and Inna Dvortsova from Facebook discussing Automated Testing as Production Simulation: Research Opportunities and Challenges.
In addition, Lionel Briand, from the University of Ottawa and the University of Luxembourg will present a keynote on Autonomous Systems: How to address the Dilemma between Autonomy and Safety
Mixed into the conference agenda, attendees will also share research papers, journal-first papers, late breaking results, NIER Track, poster presentations, tools demonstrations, conduct an industry showcase and offer a student research competition. All of this takes place through Thursday, October 13. Then, on Friday, October 14, the conference concludes with more workshop opportunities.
ASE2022 will be conducted in person, but accommodations will be made for virtual participation on a case-by-case basis.
