Oakland University has been included in the new Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2023, a ranking that analyzed data from 1,799 universities across 104 countries.
“I celebrate the fact that Oakland University is named among the best universities in the state and country in the latest Times Higher Education rankings,” said OU president Ora Hirsch Pescovitz. “We will continue our efforts to offer a high-quality, affordable education to our students to make Oakland the university of choice. We will also celebrate and support the work of our faculty and staff as they continue building our university’s national and international scholarly reputation.”
In the rankings, Oakland placed 4th in the state of Michigan and tied for 161st in the United States. The University of Oxford topped the overall rankings with Harvard University ranking second overall. The United States leads all countries with 177 institutions making the list.
This year’s rankings were based on performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four main areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. See the full World University Rankings methodology.
These rankings also demonstrate how the global higher education landscape is shifting. The highest new entry to the list is Italy’s Humanitas University. Other news of note, China now has the fourth-highest number of institutions in the top 200 and five African countries enter the ranking for the first time (Zambia, Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Mauritius).
Other Michigan universities on this year’s list include: University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Grand Valley State University and Western Michigan University.
