For the next two months, Oakland University is sponsoring a series of events focused on celebrating the arts and culture of Taiwan.
Admission is free for all events. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, September 14: Luncheon and Culture Seminar introducing the National Chinese Orchestra, Taiwan from noon – 1 p.m. in Oakland Center Gold Rooms B and C. This is the orchestra’s first-ever visit to Michigan.
Splendid Taiwan: Performance by the National Chinese Orchestra, Taiwan and the OU Glee Club from 2-3 p.m. in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms.
Saturday and Sunday, September 15-16: Taiwan Festival at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA)
Movie Screening of “Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above,” with a discussion hosted by OU professor Chiaoning Su from noon-2 p.m. on September 15 and 16 at the Detroit Film Theatre, DIA
Splendid Taiwan: Performance by the National Chinese Orchestra, Taiwan and the OU Glee Club from 3-4 p.m. on September 15 at the Detroit Film Theatre, DIA and 3-4 p.m. on September 16 at Rivera Court, DIA
Cooking Demonstration, DIY Activities and Multimedia Display and Demonstrations at the DIA throughout the weekend. For more information, visit the web page.
Sunday, November 4: Grand Opening of the newly installed “Asian Art Galleries” at the DIA when the museum opens at 10 a.m.
Saturday, November 10: Taiwanese Shadow Puppet Troupe Performance at 2 p.m. at the Detroit Film Theatre, DIA
Sunday, November 11: Taiwanese Shadow Puppet Troupe Performance at 2 p.m. at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts
Master Class of Taiwanese Shadow Puppet Troupe for OU the School of Music, Theatre and Dance at 7:30 p.m. at the OU Student Theatre Lab
Monday, November 12: Taiwanese Shadow Puppet Troupe Performance at 7 p.m. at the Ann Arbor District Library
