“I am overjoyed,” said Blake Bonkowski, coordinator for the Gender and Sexuality Center at OU.

According to the Campus Pride website, Oakland University tied with the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor for the top spot based on their respective scores.

“We can confidently say we are in the top two most LGBTQ+ friendly campuses in Michigan, as ranked by the Campus Pride Index,” Bonkowski said. “We are now one of only two campuses in Michigan to hold a five-star score.”

The university was rated highly in multiple areas, with Campus Pride noting that OU has already implemented several LGBTQ-inclusive policies and programs on campus, including:

• Providing health insurance coverage to employee’s same-sex partner
