Palmer began her career with a breakout role in the film “Akeelah and The Bee,” and then starred as the title character in the hit cable series “True Jackson, VP”, for which she received four NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Performance in a Youth/Children’s Program. She can also be seen in the contemporary spy series “Berlin Station” on EPIX.

Her most recent role as Mercedes in the 2019 release of “Hustlers” is alongside Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu, and she also appeared in Fox’s hit show “Scream Queens” as Zayday Williams. In addition, Palmer starred in FOX’s Emmy winning, GREASE: LIVE as “Marty.” She also made Broadway history as the first African-American and youngest actress to star in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s iconic 1957 musical, “Cinderella.”

Palmer has starred in over 20 feature films, including box office mega-hit “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” “Joyful Noise,” “Brotherly Love” and “Imperial Dreams.” Among her many television credits are “A Trip to Bountiful,” which earned her an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, Mini-Series or Dramatic Special; the cable miniseries “Full Circle”; made-for-TV movie “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story”; and a six-episode arc on the second season of “Masters of Sex.” As of August 2019, Palmer can be seen on the daytime talk show “GMA 3: Strahan, Sara and Keke,” with co-hosts Michael Strahan and Sara Haines.

Simon and Schuster recently published Palmer’s first book, “I Don’t Belong to You: Quiet the Noise and Find Your Voice.” In the book, she candidly shares the many bumps and roadblocks she has faced, and encourages readers to become the hero of their own story.

Palmer, an Island Records recording artist, also released her single “Wind Up” as a follow-up song to her groundbreaking EP, titled “Lauren.”

Presented by OU’s Student Life Lecture Board, this virtual event is open to OU students, faculty, staff and alumni. RSVPs are required to attend the event. Please RSVP via GrizzOrgs to receive the link for Zoom prior to the event.
