OU community comes together for 'Dollars for Dorian Relief'

Collection buckets were placed in the Oakland Center and outside the dining areas at Vandenberg Hall and Hillcrest Hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 to aid in the fundraising effort.

The effort was a collaboration of several groups on campus and led by Jean Ann Miller and the Office for Student Involvement.

Student Congress president Destinee Rule and several other students donated and volunteered for the effort.

Chris Russell, who is a student adviser to the Oakland University Board of Trustees and chair of the Student Program Board at OU, donated and volunteered his time to the fundraising effort.

Support and volunteers for the effort came from all areas across campus and included this Oakland Center table group consisting of, from left, Michelle Southward, Director, Academic Advising and Student Services for School of Health Sciences, Stephanie Lee,  Administrative Associate to the Provost,  Anne Hitt, Associate Provost and Associate Professor of Biological Sciences and Lori Marsh, Administrative Assistant for the Division of Student Affairs and Diversity.

Members of the Athletic Department stopped by for the event kickoff and donated proceeds from the weekend's men's soccer and women's volleyball contests to the fundraising efforts.

After Hurricane Dorian caused severe damage at the University of The Bahamas, Oakland University community members stepped up to help the fellow higher education institution.

After Hurricane Dorian caused severe damage at the University of The Bahamas, Oakland University community members stepped up to help the fellow higher education institution.
Oakland University came together on Thursday, September 12, to raise money in support of the University of The Bahamas and their rebuilding efforts following the damage caused by Hurricane Dorian.

The 24 hour effort raised a total of $19,337.05 to send to the University of The Bahamas.

This fundraising effort included cash collected in the Oakland Center and outside dining halls on campus, online crowdfunding, checks dropped off, The Office of the President's matching funds and President Pescovitz's personal donation.

It also included money raised through the efforts of Meadow Brook Hall, The Athletic Department, The Golf and Learning Center, Chartwells Higher Education and the Oakland University Police Department.
