624 Student Vaccination Policy

SUBJECT:STUDENT VACCINATION POLICY
NUMBER:624
AUTHORIZING BODY:SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS AND CHIEF DIVERSITY OFFICE
RESPONSIBLE OFFICE:GRAHAM HEALTH CENTER
DATE ISSUED:JULY 2024
LAST UPDATE:JULY 2024
LAST REVIEW:JULY 2024

RATIONALE:  The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, mandates institutions of higher education that administer Title IV financial aid to notify current and prospective students about their policies regarding vaccinations. This policy is intended to notify current and prospective Oakland University (University) students about the University’s student vaccination requirements.

POLICY:  The University recommends and encourages students to be up-to-date with vaccinations in accordance with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The University does not have a universal vaccination requirement applicable to all students. However, students may be required to comply with specific vaccination requirements to enroll in certain University programs, including but not limited to healthcare-related programs, or to engage in certain educational experiences.

SCOPE AND APPLICABILITY: This policy is applicable to University students.

PROCEDURES:  The University has not established a universal vaccination requirement applicable to all students, but recommends and encourages students to be up-to-date with vaccinations in accordance with the CDC Immunization Schedules. The University encourages students to review their vaccination status with their personal healthcare provider or local health department. Students who received vaccines in Michigan and who are at least 18 years old can create an account and access their full vaccination record through the Michigan Immunization Portal.

Students may be required to comply with specific vaccination requirements to enroll in certain University programs, including but not limited to healthcare-related programs (e.g. nursing, medicine, physical therapy), or to engage in certain educational experiences, including but not limited to courses, internships, practicums, co-ops, or similar learning experiences that take place on-site or that involve interaction with staff or patients from a healthcare organization (e.g. hospital, clinic, hospice, skilled nursing, community mental health). Students should consult with the individual University program to determine what, if any, vaccination requirements apply to the program or educational experience.

Once enrolled in courses at the University, students are encouraged to submit their official vaccination records to Graham Health Center (GHC) through the secure Patient Portal. Questions related to vaccinations or this policy can be submitted to GHC via the Patient Portal or via email at [email protected].
