In honor of Coach Kampe’s 40 seasons at OU

• Greg….. For forty years you have held up a high standard of excellence for your players on the court and in the classroom.
  
  
• You have set many records as a coach, and your career itself sets a record.
  
  
• Your 40-years of coaching at Oakland places you as the longest-serving coach in Division I.
  
  
• And your longevity here at Oakland personifies the meaning of loyalty…. 
  
  
• There is no separating Oakland University basketball from Greg Kampe and Oakland University.
  
  
• They are one and the same.
  
  
• In many ways, you have proven that the strategy to achieve longevity and perform at a high level requires a competitive spirit and a passion for work.
  
  
• It’s as if every day begins with a tip off.
  
  
• We are so proud that all you have accomplished….
  
  
• Your more than 600 wins at the same school among active D1 coaches ranks third behind the coach at that school up the road in East Lansing….
  
  
• Your players have earned all-league honors… Your teams have made it to the NCAA tournament…. Your teams have won championships.
  
  
• And over four decades you’ve shaped the lives of young men…. preparing them for life off the court.
  
  
• You’ve taught your players the value of teamwork…. And how to make the most of an opportunity…
  
  
• And while you’ve taught your players how to win…. you have also taught the many difficult lessons when the game doesn’t go your way….and you have to pick yourself up, and try again.
  
  
• Greg….I am so proud of our relationship, and appreciate all that you have taught me.
