Well-Being Recognition

Oakland University has been the recipient of national and state-wide awards that showcase the university's commitment to well-being for the entire campus community. Well-being programs and initiatives for both students, faculty, and staff continue to be available year round, and it is because of your support and participation that we are able to achieve such great success. With continued programming, initiatives, and support we hope to maintain the recognition that has been received while continuing to strive for other honors.

Crain’s Detroit Business Michigan’s Healthiest Employer Award

In 2012, Oakland University was named one of Michigan’s Healthiest Employers by Crain’s Detroit Business. The honor comes as a result of the university's commitment to employee health and well-being, as demonstrated by several campus initiatives including free memberships to the Campus Recreation Center for benefits-eligible faculty and staff, and smoking cessation programs. Since the 2012 award, Campus Recreation and Employee Wellness continue to strive for excellence offering a multitude of well-being opportunities for the campus community. Employee usage of the facility remains well above pre-free access numbers, with employees tipping the scales to the majority of participation in Group Exercise classes. Post award, Oakland University has also made the commitment to becoming a Smoke Free campus, in addition to continuing smoking cessation programs and support.
