Autism workshop spotlights healthy sexuality
The Center for Autism at Oakland University recently hosted a two-day advanced workshop entitled Autism and Healthy Sexuality for professionals in the autism field.
The workshop, held at the Meemic Insurance Company in Auburn Hills, provided more in-depth information as a follow-up to the Autism, Sexuality, and the Law conference held on March 31.
“This workshop provided vital information on the topic of sexuality that will hopefully serve as a conduit for future discussions and program development in sex education for individuals on the autism spectrum,” said Janet Graetz, Ph.D., associate professor and special education coordinator within the Department of Human Development and Child Studies.
Isabelle Henault, Ph.D., a sexologist and psychologist from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, presented extensive information on the topic of sexual development, healthy relationships, emotional development, appropriate and inappropriate sexual behaviors, consent, and the law.
