Podcast for Leaderful Schools records milestone show
Drs. Suzanne Klein, Robert Maxfield and Linda Tyson co-host the Podcast for Leaderful Schools shows, which are produced and published by Oakland University with support from the Galileo Institute for Teaching Leadership and made available at no charge to listeners through the Galileo Institute website and I-Tunes.

Podcast for Leaderful Schools, featuring interviews with international, national, regional and local educational leaders, has been broadcast since 2007 from the School of Education and Human Services at Oakland University. Now, the show has just recorded its milestone 200th podcast.

Drs. Suzanne Klein, Robert Maxfield and Linda Tyson co-host the podcasts, which are produced and published by Oakland University with support from the Galileo Institute for Teaching Leadership and made available at no charge to listeners through the Galileo Institute website and I-Tunes.

For the special 200th episode, Maxfield and Klein reflected back upon a myriad of previous guests that ranged from authors, superintendents, principals, teachers, professors and educational advocates like policy makers and business leaders, all who have helped shape the path for those going into educational careers.

“We started Podcasts for Leaderful Schools as a way help educational leaders become more effective practitioners,” Maxfield said. "When they can hear and discuss issues of social justice, cultural competence, equity and share best practices that help improve teaching and learning environments, good things happen.”

Guests of Podcast for Leaderful Schools have included members of the Oakland University faculty, teacher leaders and school administrators from local districts, national leaders and authors on topics related to leadership – all focused on supporting teacher leadership, creating high reliability schools and leading learning for students, staff and their organization.

Recent guests have included international authority on education reform Dr. Michael Fullan, OU Associate Professor and nationally recognized researcher on Teacher Leadership, Dr. Cynthia Carver, Teacher Development Assistant Professor Dr. Anthony “Tuf” Francis, Founder and Managing Director of the Sandy Hook Promise Nicole Hockley, OU doctoral graduate and Bloomfield Hills Superintendent Dr. Robert Glass and Novi Parkview Elementary School Principal and Galileo Academy graduate Jennifer Michos.

“Another goal of Podcasts for Leaderful Schools has always been to stimulate a rich and lively dialogue on the importance of creating effective learning communities, all centered on teaching, learning and student success,” according to Klein. “Local educators tell us they listen in their car on their way to and from school, share the podcasts with colleagues at meetings and use them to frame discussions with Board of Education members and parents. After we introduced the podcasts to participants in the Galileo Institute Saudi Arabia Leadership Project, some students became avid listeners of the podcasts while they were at OU and began sharing the links to the podcasts with colleagues back in their home country. So, we truly have gone global.”

"And, don't worry if you miss a podcast or want to catch up on the shows from the past," Tyson said. "Archived podcasts are always accessible, where listeners can find conversations with educational leaders like Barnett Berry, Will Richardson, State Superintendent Brian Whiston and others."

Here’s to another 200 episodes!
