Felicita Arzu Carmichael earned her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Professional Communication at New Mexico State University (NMSU), where she worked as a writing program coordinator and co-authored a custom textbook for first-year writing students. Felicita has taught rhetoric and composition, business and professional communication, and graduate and undergraduate technical writing courses at NMSU. She has also worked with high school students in the Upward Bound Program and taught intensive English courses to international students in the Center for English Language Programs at NMSU. Felicita has led many workshops and presented at regional and national conferences on topics including online and blended pedagogy, teacher training and professional development, and teaching of writing. Prior to pursuing graduate studies, she taught composition courses at Muffles Junior College in Orange Walk, Belize, her home country.

Felicita’s research interests include first-year writing, online writing instruction, multilingual writers, cultural rhetorics, and writing program administration. In her current research project, which emerged from her doctoral research, she draws on humanist and posthumanist theories of place to complicate how the field of rhetoric and composition understands and practices online writing instruction.
