BCABA COURSEWORK

Oakland University's BCaBA coursework has been approved by the Association for Behavior Analysis International

The Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst ® (BCaBA ®) is an undergraduate-level certification in behavior analysis. Professionals certified at the BCaBA level must be supervised by someone certified at the BCBA/ BCBA-D level. BCaBAs can supervise the work of Registered Behavior Technicians and others who implement behavior-analytic interventions.

Information sessions are a great way to meet faculty and learn about BCaBA coursework. Topics discussed during the sessions include the growing field of applied behavior analysis, the 2012 insurance reform legislation, career opportunities and job outlook, behavior analyst certification levels and course details.

Courses are taken in a set sequence, beginning in fall, and are completed within one year. Registration information is not published in SAIL. Courses can be taken by undergraduate students to fulfill 15 credits of electives, and they may also be taken by individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree. Registration information will be shared with eligible candidates after participation in an information session.

All information sessions are held virtually. Participation in an information session is required to begin coursework.

BCaBAs Interested in Becoming BCBAs
BCaBAs who are in good standing may apply for the BCBA examination once they have completed additional required coursework at the graduate level as well as supervised experience required by the BACB.

The Association for Behavior Analysis International has verified the following courses toward the coursework requirements for eligibility to take the Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst ® examination. Applicants will need to meet additional requirements before they can be deemed eligible to take the examination.

Enrollment Requirements
Candidates will:

  • have a minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent)
  • have the potential for success in the field
  • have earned a bachelor’s degree before sitting for the BCaBA exam
  • have attended an info session / group interview.

The course sequence offered by Oakland University has been approved by the Association for Behavior Analysis International and fulfills the course requirements for the BCaBA credential.

Individuals accepted into these courses are responsible for arranging their own field work in compliance with the criteria set forth by the BACB; Oakland University can provide a list of options.

Coursework Overview

  • All courses will be taught by a BCBA or BCBA-D

Pass-rate data are not published for sequences with fewer than six first-time candidates in a single year or for sequences within their first four years of operation. Oakland University is starting its 6th cohort in fall 2023.
