Longtime OU swimming and diving head coach Pete Hovland joined elite ranks this September when he was inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2016. Standing on stage at Detroit’s Max M. Fisher Music Center alongside the likes of former Detroit Pistons Ben Wallace and John Long, and Red Wings Brenden Shanahan and Chris Osgood, Hovland called the achievement “an honor of a lifetime.”

Coaching Oakland University swimming since 1979, Hovland has led the men and women’s programs to countless league titles, produced four NCAA Division II National Championships, trained 54 individual national champions on the men’s team, and named conference coach of the year 23 times.
