Oakland University Visiting Assistant Professor of Graphic Design Courtney Jentzen is the founder of Swiss Cottage Designs, a custom design studio that focuses on illustration and branding.

Jentzen is a professional illustrator with more than 18 years of experience in the field. She spent 10 years working in the New York City design industry where she worked with a range of notable clients, including Warby Parker, Crown Publishing, New Era, Graduate Hotels, Paperless Post, as well as a number of agencies and lifestyle brands.

Jentzen has illustrated several books including “A Little Taste of Cape Cod” and “A Little Taste of San Francisco.” She also illustrated the entirety of the “Little Local Cookbook Series.”

Jentzen works closely with many local businesses in Detroit, where she has created an assortment of popular Detroit themed imagery that highlights the unique city she also lives in. She applies her extensive professional experiences into her courses at Oakland University where she focuses on creating a cohesive relationship between illustration and graphic design, understanding your craft and finding your creative voice.

Jentzen also runs a design club at a public school in Detroit where she works to bridge the design gap between students by early exposure to the industry.

When she’s not working, she’s spending time with her young family and renovating a very old Victorian home in Detroit.

She received her BFA in Illustration from Syracuse University in 2005.
