Research: Population Dynamics and Larval Ecology of Wood Frogs.
Dr. Berven has been monitoring a single population of wood frogs for the past 35 years to elucidate the factors that lead to year-to-year fluctuations in population size. Recent studies have addressed the relative importance of environmental factors, density-dependent factors, and parasites. Other research activities include aspects of amphibian larval metamorphic development, competition, and kin recognition. Four undergraduate students and one graduate student are currently working on these and related projects.
