Elizabeth Adams is currently the ESL Coordinator and International Advisor for the ESL Institute in the Office of Global Engagement for Oakland University (OU). As a twice-over Golden Grizzly alum, she holds an MAT in Teaching Reading and Language Arts and a Bachelors in Teaching with a minor in linguistics with an ESL certification from OU. She has had her research published in the International Journal of Learning (Vol. 15, No.11) in an article entitled “The Call for Collaboration & Leadership: The Student Teaching Experience” which focused on the need for school districts and universities to develop more collaborative relationships between student teachers and their teacher supervisors.
Elizabeth has many years of experience working as an elementary and middle school educator in the public and private school systems making a positive impact on the lives of her students. Her passion for supporting students at Oakland University has included application processing, advising, and recruiting international and non-citizen students with past positions in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Graduate School. Her current work in the ESL Institute focuses on the recruitment and retention of ESL students and further developing the ESL program. She has been a guest lecturer for incoming freshman teaching the COM 1100 course. Elizabeth provides personalized service and support for students to enable a smooth transition to campus and more fully engage in college life. She advises on the path toward degree for ESL and American Semester Abroad students. Outside of her work at OU, Elizabeth continues her passion for teaching by working virtually with ESL students in China on a weekly basis.
