Placement and Classes

Students are placed into ESL courses based on reported English proficiency test scores. For students who have not reported any test scores, the ESL Institute administers an online placement test. Students must activate all Oakland University accounts and email esl@oakland.edu to be given access to the test.

Based on the results of their placement test and subject to course enrollments, students are provided with suggested placement into the following courses: reading, writing, and speaking/listening. 

In general, the times and duration of ESL courses follow the Oakland University schedule of classes and academic calendar, including the final exam schedule.
