Placement and Classes

Students are placed into ESL courses based on reported English proficiency test scores. For students who have not reported any test scores, the ESL Institute administers an online placement test. Students must activate all Oakland University accounts and email esl@oakland.edu to be given access to the test.

Based on the results of their placement test and subject to course enrollments, students are placed in courses at one of eight course levels into the following types of courses: reading, writing and speaking/listening.

In general, the times and duration of ESL courses follow the Oakland University schedule of classes and academic calendar, including the final exam schedule.
