RESEARCH INTERESTS: Sixteenth Century French Literature; translation; Open Education Resources; creating an effective classroom environment for language learning

Professor Berven edited a five-volume series summarizing critical work on Michel de Montaigne for Garland Publisher’s 1995 ‘New Books in Philosophy’, which she divided into the following topics:  Montaigne’s Message and Method, Sources of Montaigne’s Thought, Montaigne’s Rhetoric, Language and Meaning, and Reading Montaigne. She contributed a chapter to ‘Teach French with a Sense of Humor’ (2021). She is concerned about the high price of textbooks, and works with the Affordable Course Materials Initiative on campus to encourage faculty members to choose free or affordable materials.
