Italian
Italian is the fourth most studied foreign language in the world, after English, Spanish and Chinese. Students are often motivated by an interest in art, music, travel and in reconnecting with their Italian families. The fact that learning Italian isn’t a necessity, but something people actively choose to do – for fun, for love, and maybe on a whim – is part of what makes it such a joyful experience. Students in the Italian program build strong and lasting friendships with professors and peers, who become their support system during their lives at OU and beyond.
Numerous companies in Southeast Michigan - including Stellantis, Marelli, Pirelli and Brembo - have deep ties with Italy, making the knowledge of Italian a sought-after skill in our job market.
