About the Department
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers undergraduate degrees in mathematics, statistics, and actuarial science (in conjunction with the School of Business Administration), master’s degrees in mathematics and applied statistics, and doctoral degrees in applied mathematical sciences with specialization in applied continuous mathematics, applied discrete mathematics, and applied statistics.
The department currently has 26 full-time faculty members with research interests in various areas of algebra, analysis, combinatorics and optimization, mathematical biology, number theory, and statistics. Several faculty members have conducted research supported by external funding. The department also hosts a number of visiting faculty members on a regular basis. In addition, the department’s teaching mission is supported by about two dozen part-time faculty members.
