Types

From wedding receptions to client meetings and training seminars, let your next event be special and hassle free! The Oakland Center provides One Stop Shopping, competitive pricing, exceptional customer service, advanced technology, planning and execution of Oakland University spaces and services as well as the ability to personalize your room layout. An experienced planner will assist you in creating the perfect event from start to finish.

Reserve Space
Student groups receive priority, to the extent possible, over other university and off-campus groups in scheduling facilities at the Oakland Center. In each case, the policies and procedures for reserving meeting rooms and informational tables must be followed. Fees for facility and equipment rental and set up also may apply as prescribed in this policy.

Student Organizations

Meetings and events must be directly related to conducting official University business for a University audience, which consists primarily of University participants. There are no facility rental fees for most Student Organization events; however, set-up, cleaning, maintenance and repair, A/V equipment and/or labor, and other rental charges may be billed to organization accounts. The Oakland Center will provide known charges in advance of an event. Additional fees and charges that are unexpected or unanticipated may be applied after an event if required. Please refer to the guidelines below for more information.

Event Origin: Registered student organizations, associated directly with Oakland University.
Audience: Primarily the Oakland University community, including university students, faculty and/or staff.
Funding: If necessary, events are supported by university/organization funds. Any and all events costs will be paid by a university fund number
Partnership: Meetings and events are not planned, supported or partnered with an external organization.
Philanthropy/Fundraising: Student organizations will not have to pay a facility fee for philanthropy/fundraising events, unless there is a required entry fee or ticket (see exceptions below) or the primary audience is not the Oakland University community
Exceptions: In the case that an event has a required registration fee, entry fee or ticket, a 20% facility fee will be incurred (the percentage fee is based on the cost of registration, entry or ticket). Full and detailed sales need to be submitted to the Oakland Center following the event, and fees will be collected by the Oakland Center following the event. Any registration fee, entry fee or ticket should be coordinated with the Office for Student Involvement.

University Departments

Audience: Primarily the Oakland University community, including university students, faculty and/or staff.
Funding: If necessary, events are supported by university/organization funds. Any and all events costs will be paid by a university fund number.
Partnership: Meetings and events are not planned, supported or partnered with an external organization.
Exceptions: In the case that an event has a required registration fee, entry fee or ticket, or generates revenue in any other manner, a rental charge will be incurred at 50% of the full room rental rate, plus any additional charges that may include, but are not limited to, equipment and labor.

University Sponsored

Meetings and events hosted by a Student Organization or University Department in association with an external organization and/or the audience is not primarily from Oakland University (students, faculty and staff). Facility fees will be associated with University Sponsored events, which can include room rental, set-up, cleaning, maintenance and repair, A/V equipment and/or labor, and other rental charges. A facility service agreement is required.

Event Origin: Oakland University recognized groups (Registered Student Organizations, University Departments or groups).
Audience: Meeting or event may or may not be primarily for the Oakland University community.
Funding: Meeting or event is supported in part or in whole by outside sponsorship, admission fees, ticket sales, or registration charges.
Partnership: Oakland University recognized group, through collaboration, partnership or sponsorship, is providing an external organization shared access to Oakland University spaces and resources.

External Organizations

Meetings and events that are initiated and hosted by external organizations, including, but not limited to, private companies, non-profit organizations, or individuals.This group also includes Student Organizations and University Departments that are hosting events not directly related to University business. Facility fees will be charged for this group, and can include room rental, set-up, cleaning, maintenance and repair, A/V equipment and/or labor, and other rental charges. A facility service agreement is required.

University departments and student organizations have the opportunity to host a variety of events in the Oakland Center. Whether a weekly meeting or a national conference, the Oakland Center can assist with making your event a success.
University guests have the opportunity to host a variety of events in, and around, the Oakland Center. Whether a weekly meeting or a national conference, the Oakland Center can assist with the planning of your event to make it a success.

The Oakland Center has 18 meeting rooms, some which can be combined to accommodate groups up to 600 people.
